Alpine Level 3 Exam Day 3 Ski - Taos

Registration Deadline 2/22/2019 Members and candidates with disabilities (whether physical or cognitive), who are considering applying for a certification exam must contact the Steamboat Springs office at least four weeks in advance of the scheduled test or exam to provide notice of their requested reasonable accommodation and to discuss their situations before the registration deadline date. Requests for accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please note, this is Day 3 of a THREE DAY EXAM. If you would like to attend all three days, please register for Day 1 MA/Tech and Day 2 Teach as well. 

Level 3 is a trade certification validating a candidates successful experiences, demonstration and lesson planning ability, and technical understanding as it pertains to level 8 and 9 skiers on all terrain, including basic freestyle, double black bumps and variable terrain.

Alpine Level 2 certified or foreign equivalent
Completion of the Level 3 Proficiency Log
Completed and Passed Online Written Exam (must register for separately)
Completion of the Children's Specialist 2

Requirements: Children's Specialist 2 and Racing Requirement of NASTAR or equivalent Gold Medal

Please note, if you use the Children's Specialist 2 for one of the elective courses, it must be completed BEFORE attending any of the three day exam.

Day 3: Ski

For first-time candidates only.  The skiing tasks are divided into three sections – Highlighted, Basic Blended, and Applied.  Feedback and scores will be given regarding your performance in relationship to the Level 3 National Standard. Please see task descriptors in the IDP or the videos on The Matrix website for the list of possible tasks.  For the 18/19 season, each section can be passed individually and will remain valid for three years while candidates attempt to pass the remaining sections.  The practice of banking successful passes of individual sections of the ski day will end in May 2019 or once the three year timeframe lapses for any existing passes.

Location / Date: The event is held on March 24 at Taos Resort

Check-In Location & Time:  Check in will be at 8:15 a.m. in Resort Center Cafeteria, Tender Foot Katie’s

Required before event: Participants should bring the proficiency log with you to the event, even if you are retaking and have provided it before. Participants also need to complete the Alpine Level 3 Written Exam 72 hours before attending the event (you must register for this separately, $20 fee). Certificates and pins will not be given out until the participants meets all of the requirements, including providing the complete Alpine Level 3 proficiency log, passing the Alpine Level 3 Written Exam and meeting the NASTAR/EPIC Race Requirement of Gold Medal. If you have NASTAR results, please email them to if you have not already done so. It is best to email the NASTAR/EPIC results at least 1 week prior to the exam so it gets recorded on the results sheet. Also, the Level 3 certification will not be awarded unless Children’s Specialist 2 has also been passed.
