Registration Deadline 3/28/2019 Members and candidates with disabilities (whether physical or cognitive), who are considering applying for a certification exam must contact the Steamboat Springs office at least four weeks in advance of the scheduled test or exam to provide notice of their requested reasonable accommodation and to discuss their situations before the registration deadline date. The Rocky Mountain Training Academy is designed for those individuals considering a career in teaching skiing or snowboarding. The course will provide insight to the job of an instructor and specific training and certifications. After 10 days, attendees with possess the skills and qualifications that will transfer to their success in the snowsports industry.  The course will be conducted on-snow as well as in a classroom setting during evening indoor technical sessions. Our top level PSIA-RM-AASI education staff members will spend 9 days and 2 evenings providing you with interactive presentations and plenty of practice to better your teaching, movement analysis and sliding skills.  The course will provide each participant 4 days of training and the opportunity to obtain their PSIA or AASI Level 1 Certification and Children’s Specialist 1 qualification. Don’t miss out on this inaugural opportunity to learn from some of the best in the industry and take your skiing and teaching skills to the next level.

Check-in Time/Location:

  • A-Basin Level 1 Prep April 18-20: Check in will be at 8:30 a.m. April 18th at A-Basin in their A-Frame.
  • Loveland Level 1 Exam April 22-24: Check in will be at 8:30 a.m. April 22nd at Loveland.
  • Loveland Childrens Prep, Childrens Speciallist 1 Exam April 25-27: Check in will be at 8:30 a.m. April 25th at Loveland
  • Lift Ticket- Important: If you hold a Vail Resorts International (VRI) pass, please bring with you. This will serve as your pass for the event. If you are not a VRI pass holder, a lift ticket will be provided.

  • Study Materials:
    • You will be mailed complimentary copies of the Teaching Snowsports Manual, the Alpine Technical Manual and the Children’s Instruction Handbook.   These were delivered via USPS, to your mailing address is in your online account.  These books will prepare you for the Level 1 and CS1 exams.
    • Our WEBSITE is a wealth of information regarding this event and membership related information.  
      • Visit the ALPINE education page for an hour by hour break down of the 3-day prep and 3-day Level 1 Exam. Scroll down to the Alpine Level 1 header.
      • Visit the CHILDREN’S education page for a breakdown of what to expect at the Children’s Specialist 1 and for some study materials.
  • Alpine Level 1 Exam:
    • Alpine E-Learning: You must complete the Alpine E-Learning prior to the on-snow exam.  This should only take about 1.5hrs and includes a short quiz.  Find the E-Learning HERE.  Study materials for the E-Learning are the Alpine Technical Manual and the Teaching Snowsports Manual – these will be mailed to you.
  • Children’s Specialist 1 Exam:
    • Children’s Specialist 1 Workbook: please complete the CS1 workbook before the start of the on snow CS1 exam on Apr 19th. Find directions to signing into the workbook HERE
    • The Children’s Instruction Manual will help you prep for the Workbook and Quiz.  The preferred process would be 1) read the Children’s Technical Manual, 2) Complete the Workbook
