Alpine Level 2 Exam Day 1 MA Tech - Arizona Snowbowl

Registration Deadline 2/19/2019 Members and candidates with disabilities (whether physical or cognitive), who are considering applying for a certification exam must contact the Steamboat Springs office at least four weeks in advance of the scheduled test or exam to provide notice of their requested reasonable accommodation and to discuss their situations before the registration deadline date. Please note, this is Day 1 of a THREE DAY EXAM. If you would like to attend all three days, please register for Day 2 Teach and Day 3 Ski as well. 

Level 2 is a trade certification validating a candidates successful experiences, demonstration and lesson planning ability, and technical understanding as it pertains to level 5, 6, and 7 skiers, up to and including entry level bumps and entry level black terrain.

Prerequisites:

Alpine Level 1 certified or foreign equivalent
Racing Requirement - NASTAR or equivalent Silver Medal
Completion of the Level 2 Proficiency Log
Completed and Passed Online Written Exam (must register for separately
Must pass Children's Specialist 1 before attending on-snow exam (If you had passed the Teach portion of the Level 2 Alpine Exam, CS1 is not required as a prerequisite until after the 16-17 season, you must still complete two other prerequisites though)

Must complete 2 electives from the list below:

  • Level 2 Teaching Exam Prep
  • Boot Balancing & Alignment
  • Movement Analysis 201
  • Technical Foundations Clinic
  • USSA Coaches Qualification
  • Precision Skiing 201
  • Freestyle Specialist 1
  • Certification in another discipline if taken after completion of Alpine Level 1 exam

Please note, if you use the Children's Specialist 1 for one of the elective courses, it must be completed BEFORE attending any of the three day exam.

Day 1: MA/Tech Exam

Day 1 of the Level 2 Certification Exam starts INDOORS. Candidates will view video clips of skier at various levels and complete a movement analysis.  Candidates will share their movement analysis descriptions with examiners and discuss cause and effect relationships.  Candidates will utilize descriptions of body-part specific movements, and then go on snow to demonstrate their technical understanding.

Location & Date: The event will be held March 20 at Arizona Snowbowl.

Check-in Time/Location: Check in will be at 8:15AM a.m. in the Hart Prairie Lodge.

Required before event: Participants should bring the proficiency log with you to the event, even if you are retaking and have provided it before. Participants also need to complete the Alpine Level 2 Written Exam 72 hours before attending the event (you must register for this separately, $20 fee). Certificates and pins will not be given out until the participants meet all of the requirements, including providing the complete Alpine Level 2 proficiency log, passing the Alpine Level 2 Written Exam and meeting the NASTAR/EPIC Race Requirement of Silver Medal. If you have NASTAR results, please email them to carissa@psia-rm.org if you have not already done so. It is best to email the NASTAR/EPIC results at least 1 week prior to the exam so it gets recorded on the results sheet. Also, the Level 2 certification will not be awarded unless Children’s Specialist 1 has also been passed.

  • Bring your employee pass if you are employed by the host area. Lift tickets are generously donated by the host area for those not employed there.
  • Please be sure your equipment meets current safety and DIN specifications.
